Photogenic woman falls off cliff to death while posing for selfie

A 33-year-old Belgian woman died after falling 100 feet while posing for a selfie on the edge of a cliff while on a trip with her husband.

Zoe Snoeks fell off a cliff near the village of Nadrin in the Luxembourg province of Luxembourg on Tuesday, Nov. 2, and landed in the Ourthe River, according to Newsflash, citing the public prosecutor’s office.

A team of rescuers led by police, firefighters, scuba divers, and members of the Groupe de Recherche et d’Intervention en Milieu Perilleux, or Perilous Environment Reconnaissance and Intervention Group, recovered her body.

Her husband, Joeri Janssen, whom she married in 2012, told the outlet that they went to the scenic site in their camper van on Sunday, October 31.

“Since the pandemic, our little thing has been to drive across Europe in our van and take beautiful photos,” he explained.

On the day of the tragedy, the couple, who were traveling with their dogs Joy and Ivy, had planned to return to their home in the province of Limburg.

Joeri stated to Newflash: “We got up very early to photograph the Herou. Mist is almost always present. It’s ideal for photographs. We got there before 9 a.m.”

He claimed his wife was taking photos on the cliff’s edge when “she told me to keep an eye out for the dogs.”

“I turned to the dogs and told them to wait,” he continued. When I returned my attention to Zoe, she had vanished. She had simply vanished. It had to have happened in under five seconds.

“I didn’t see anything or hear anything. There was no rustling, screams, or shouts. When I looked up, all I saw was dust.

“I called her despite knowing it was hopeless.” The chasm was several tens of meters wide and several tens of meters deep.

“I immediately dialed 911, but there was almost no network coverage. Even though I speak a little French, they didn’t understand me.”

He claimed he then rushed to the nearby Le Belvedere Hotel for assistance.

He stated: “The rescue team stated in French that they were unable to locate Zoe immediately. They then told me, in French, that Zoe had died, but I immediately understood what they meant.

“Her passion was photography. I quickly unlocked her phone and discovered that she had taken a photo on the cliff edge. Her final selfie.” Zoe’s gaze is fixed on the road ahead. You can also see the mist and the river where her body was eventually discovered.”
