We need just 19 Ministers in Ghana for dev’t – Kofi Akpaloo

Percival Kofi Akpaloo, the leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), claims that he would only require 19 ministers to run the country.

According to him, the current government’s various ministers and ministries are excessive and redundant.

Ministers and their aides now outnumber the Minority in Parliament for the second time in the Fourth Republic’s existence.

In 1997, the Minority in Parliament consisted of 69 MPs (including CPP and PNC members), whereas the second Rawlings government had 83 ministries and deputy ministers.

Ghanaians were outraged when the Akufo-Addo government had 110 ministers and deputy ministers, compared to 106 Minority members of Parliament.

“If I am voted as President, we will not have more than 19 ministers. I will merge most of the ministries as they can function as a subset of the major 19. A Ministry like the Lands and Natural Resources will be divided into two with the Lands bit going under Agricultural Ministry and the Natural Resources bit going under Energy Ministry,” he told Don Kwabena Prah on Happy98.9FM’s ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ political talk show.

He also thinks the Ministries of Sanitation, Gender and Social Protection, Roads and Transports, and Communication should be abolished.

Ghana’s young, according to Kofi Akpaloo, want drastic change. “They’re looking for a fresh start, and the LPG is giving them just that.” No Ghanaian will be let down because of our dedication and seriousness.
